Earlier we posted that Apple has sold 600,00 iPhones through pre-orders, then we wrote that estimated sales were rumored at 1.5 Million units, now Apple has officially announced the actual sales figures from the first three days of sales worldwide.
In a press release, Apple announced that, as of Saturday, June 26, it had sold over 1.7 million iPhone 4 units. As if that doesn’t sound awesome enough, if you do the math then that means the device was selling at a rate of nearly seven per second.
According to Apple CEO, Steve Jobs “This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history,” he then adds that the sales have exceeded even their own hopes and dreams. Steve did add that they “apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.”
AppleInsider notes that the iPhone 4 numbers “shatter last year’s record, when the iPhone 3GS sold a million units in its first three days.” It is interesting to add that the original iPhone in 2007 took 74 days to reach its first million buyers.
