Apple releases Mac OS X 10.6.5 update!

Mac OS X 10.6.5 Update Is Now Available For Download

A while back we reported that the new update for Mac OS X 10.6.5 was just around the corner, and now the day has finally arrived, if you happen run the software updates on your Mac, you will see that the Mac OS X 10.6.5 update is available for download.

As promised the update brings a lot of great bug fixes, performance improvements, and stability enhancements, below is a more comprehensive list of the changes:

  • Addresses stability and performance of graphics applications and games.
  • Resolves a delay between print jobs.

  • Resolves an issue when dragging contacts from Address Book to iCal.
  • Addresses an issue in which dragging an item from a stack causes the Dock to not automatically hide.
  • Resolves an issue in which Wikipedia information may not display correctly in Dictionary.
  • Improves performance of MainStage on certain Macs.
  • Resolves spacing issues with OpenType fonts.
  • Improves reliability with some Bluetooth braille displays.
  • Resolves a VoiceOver issue when browsing some websites with Safari 5.
  • Improves Bluetooth pairing with Magic Trackpad.
  • Resolves performance issues with third-party displays that use InstaPort technology.
  • Add SSL support for transferring files with iDisk.
  • Resolves an issue when opening 4-up Photo Booth pictures in Preview.
  • Addresses keyboard responsiveness issues in the Dock when Spaces is turned on.
  • Resolves an issue syncing Address Book with Google.
  • Fixes an issue when replying to a Mail message sent by a person whose name contains certain characters such as é or ü.
  • Improves performance for users bound to an Active Directory domain.
  • Improves reliability of Ethernet connections.

Apple seeds Mac OS X 10.6.6 to developers.

Even though the latest update to Mac OS X 10.6.5 still hasn’t been released to end users yet, Apple has already started seeding early builds of 10.6.6 to developers.

A few days ago we posted that the release of 10.6.5 is just around the corner, so the news of Apple working on 10.6.6 only confirms the rumors.

If you look at the size of the 10.6.6 download you will see that with 3.7 MB the changes to the operating system wont be earth shattering, however what will be a huge change will be the release of the Mac App Store which is expected to be included in the new build.

There has long been rumors that Apple would release an update to OS X soon, well now it seems as if that might actually happen REAL soon, if internal reports pegging the imminent release of OS X 10.6.5 are accurate.

According to Apple folks tipping 9to5Mac, the final build of Mac OS X 10.6.5 was release internally yesterday, and should be ready for distribution during this week.

Here’s what is new:

• Improved reliability with Microsoft Exchange servers.
• Addresses performance of some image-processing operations in iPhoto and Aperture.
• Address stability and performance of graphics applications and games.
• Resolves a delay between print jons.
• Addresses a printing issue for some HP printers connected to an Airport extreme.
• Resolves an issue when dragging contacts from Address Book to iCal.
• Addresses an issue where dragging an item from a stack causes the Dock to not automatically hide.
• Resolves an issue with Wikipedia information not displaying correctly in Dictionary.
• Improves performance of MainStage on certain Mac systems.
• Resolves spacing issues with OpenType fonts.
• Improves reliability with some Bluetooth braille displays.
• Resolves a VoiceOver issue when browsing some web sites with Safari 5.

The update clocks in at a beefy 496.6 MB, so if you are on a slow connection it might take a while for the update to install.
