This is interesting, according to AppleInsider Apple will release new iMac models next Tuesday, May 3. Citing “people familiar with the matter” who have “continually provided accurate information,” AppleInsider states that the next iMacs will sport second-generation Intel Core i5/i7 chips and a Thunderbolt port. It could not be confirmed at this time if the new iMacs will feature changes to the display sizes.
AI also states that its sources said the early morning hours of May 3 at Apple Retail stores will be a “visual night” which means that the new iMacs should be on sale the day they are announced. “Visual night” is the term when Apple retail employees stay through the night and change merchandising and display planograms in the store in order to prepare a new product for sale. In this case, the older iMacs will be removed and replaced by the newly announced models.
We have long been speculating when Apple would update their iMac and Mac Pro, now it seems as it an update might happen in the near future. Sources are reporting that Apple is currently notifying sales channels of shortage in the stock for their iMacs, and the Mac Pro seems to be out of stock according to several websites.
According to AppleInsider, a source says that Apple is informing some distributors not to expect future shipments of the 21.5″ 3.06 GHz iMac, indicating that the model may no longer be in production, this could be an indication that Apple will include a dual-core Intel Core i5 model in addition to the existing quad-core i5 and i7 configurations.
One MacRumors reader has pointed out that Apple’s somewhat-hidden Reserve and Pick Up program is currently showing the company’s Mac Pro models as “Unavailable” for reservation at his local retail store in Canada, possibly hinting at an imminent update.
A quick check of the reservation systems for a handful of Apple retail stores around the United States shows a similar story, with some stores showing complete unavailability of Mac Pro reservations while others continue to offer either the base Quad-Core model or the 8-core model but not both.
We are all very exited for this news and hope Apple really does release an update in the near future, we will keep you updated as news seeps out.
